Each year, the Bay & Basin Community Nippers Club presents the Cameron Burke Club Spirit Award to recognise members who demonstrate the values that make our club so special, commitment, friendship, leadership, sportsmanship and a willingness to support others.
For the 2025/26 season, we were delighted to announce joint winners: Calum Campbell and Xavier Brooks.
Both Calum and Xavier have made a valuable contribution to our club and have shown, in their own ways, what the spirit of Bay & Basin Community Nippers is all about.
Calum Campbell
Calum has been part of Bay & Basin Community Nippers for many years and has grown from a young Nipper into an outstanding young volunteer and leader within our club.
Over the past four years, Calum has volunteered on Sunday mornings as both a Cadet Water Safety Officer and Age Manager, helping to support our younger Nippers and contributing to the safe and positive environment we strive to create each week.
Calum has also completed Surf Life Saving training, First Aid training and his Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). His commitment to developing his skills and giving back to the club has allowed him to take on greater responsibility and become a role model for our younger members — particularly the boys who look up to our older Cadets and hope to follow the same pathway.
It has been a privilege to watch Calum grow into the young man he is today. His contribution, enthusiasm and willingness to help others are exactly the qualities this award celebrates.
Xavier Brooks
Xavier returned to Bay & Basin Community Nippers in 2025 after being away from the club for a few years.
It was wonderful to welcome Xavier back, and during the 2025/26 season he quickly became an important part of our Nippers community once again.
Xavier has shown a great attitude towards being involved in the club and has embraced being back at the beach with our Nippers and families. His willingness to participate, support others and contribute to the friendly and inclusive atmosphere of our Sunday mornings made him a deserving recipient of the Cameron Burke Club Spirit Award.
Returning to a club after several years away can be a big step, but Xavier settled back into the Bay & Basin community and demonstrated the spirit and camaraderie that this award recognises.
A very special award
The Cameron Burke Club Spirit Award is about much more than participation or achievement in the water. It recognises the people who help make our club a community, those who encourage others, lend a hand, show leadership and contribute to making Sunday mornings at the beach something our families look forward to.
Congratulations to Calum and Xavier on being named the 2025/26 Cameron Burke Club Spirit Award joint winners.
We are incredibly proud of both of you and grateful for everything you have contributed to Bay & Basin Community Nippers.
